I graduated from The University of Hertfordshire with a combined honours degree in Law Major and Philosophy Minor. I was an active student at University and was a representative voicing student concerns to a panel of teachers. My role was to negotiate and communicate between the teachers and students.
Having shadowed barristers at a number of chambers, and with work experience in a number of different law firms, my aspiration to pursue a career as a Solicitor was confirmed – something I had wanted to do since the age of 12! I completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, in 2002 and became a qualified Solicitor in November 2005.
On a personal level, I enjoy a wide range of curricular activities such as helping to organise fund-raising events at a voluntary-run Saturday school. I am also part of the WIBN networking group and attend other networking events and charity organisation meetings - as I enjoy helping different causes, making lots of new contacts and meeting new people.
My background and experience
Having been qualified for over 12 years and specialising in the private client practice area of law, I am able to provide advice on wills and probate, elderly client advice, lasting power of attorneys and court of protection work.
Wills and Probate work can be very rewarding as I enjoy dealing with the vulnerable and elderly, assisting with their problems and organising their administrative affairs. Wills are important not only to elderly clients, but to anyone with assets. I advise and educate the general public about the importance of wills and share my knowledge with my clients.
As well as private client work, I also cover general practitioner areas of law such as: conveyancing; buying and selling commercial and residential property; leases extensions and renewals; landlord and tenant, divorce matters and consent orders for financial agreements between partners and spouses.
Why I started my business
I have always wanted to further develop and challenge myself, both personally and within my career and to help others. When I left my full-time job, I realised I had a network of people and connections who required my services. I thought I couldn’t let my skills and knowledge go to waste in full time employment – where I was dealing with administration and targets set by employers, which took me away from the actual job at hand. I didn’t want to turn people away, so I decided to do it ‘my way’ and make use of my services within my own networks and social groups.
My proudest achievements in business
• When I first qualified I jumped straight into a new firm to become head of department for Private Client Law
• I had a Court of Protection case recently, where the opposition was a Local Authority social services and court appointed solicitor for the vulnerable mother in question. I was acting for the children who were side-stepped throughout the case. It was a victory that the children were being heard and I gave them a voice, so their concerns and wishes were also considered.
I can speak on the following topics:
• Private Client Law, Wills, Probate, Power of Attorneys, Court of Protection
• Tax Planning, Family Law, Landlord and Tenant, Property
• My Business Journey
• Becoming a Lawyer
